Colt Officers Model Revolver History
I would be interested to learn more about my Colt Officers Model Target 38 Special, Serial number 5858XX with a “D” below that number. It boasts a 6 inch barrel with perfect bore. Top of the barrel roll mark reveals 'COLTS PT FA MFG. CO. HARTFORD, CT U.S.A - PTD AUG 5, 1884 JULY 4, 1905 OCT 5, 1926.' According to the Colt site this was manufactured in 1927, the first year of the 3rd issue. How rare is this piece and what is it's value? Colt was the finest Target revolver of it's time. The Officer's Model was always Colt's premium revolver until the introduction of the super-premium Python in 1955. The rear of the frame is checkered flanked by original, sharp checkered walnut grips displaying rampant Colt silver medallions. The original finish is thinning some for a 91 year old Colt having light scratches mostly toward the muzzle. Action is smooth and tight. Timing is perfect. It would be appreciated if you gurus would share your sources and insights about this revolver. What sites or forums have more information on this Colt? Thank you for looking, your help, and replying.
